Established in 1906, Baxter Northup is the oldest continuously operating music store in California. Originally located in downtown Los Angeles, first at 339 South Hill St. near Angel’s Flight (see below) and then at 837 South Olive St., the store moved to Ventura Blvd. in the 1950s and has been located at is present address since 1993.
Instrument Sales
Baxter Northup specializes in brass and woodwind sales, as well as orchestral strings and guitars. We offer new and used instruments and cater to beginning, intermediate, and professional level musicians. Our knowledgable staff is happy to assist you in finding the right instrument for your needs.
Lessons
For over 100 years, Baxter Northup has provided the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles areas with private music lessons for students of all ages.
Repairs
Baxter Northup has a full in-house repair shop. We specialize in wind and brass instrument repair. We can also re-string and do minor adjustments to guitars, violins, violas, and cellos.
The repair shop is open every day except Tuesday and Sunday but please feel free to drop off your instrument any day of the week. We’re here to help!
